Welcome to the January 26 – February 1, 2020 edition of the Office 365 Weekly Digest.

Nine features were added to the Office 365 Roadmap last week, including updates for Teams, OneDrive, Office 365, Outlook on the web, and Project Online.

There is one new event for this week – the rescheduled “Meet the new Yammer” webinar on Monday, February 3rd at 9am Pacific. This is also the spotlight event of the week.

Highlights from last week’s blogs include the “What’s new in January 2020” for Microsoft 365, Teams and SharePoint, as well as the new Priority chart in Planner. There are also posts with information on recent updates to the Microsoft 365 compliance center and Microsoft Compliance Score.

We see lots of cases where configuration of our protection stack has enabled malicious content to be inadvertently delivered to end users. We’re working on a few features that will help address this problem. Our first phase includes Honoring detonation verdicts. All too frequently, URLs and files that have been flagged as malicious are allowed through to the inbox due to transport rules and domain allows. We’re updating our filters to ensure that malicious files and URLs are not delivered regardless of configuration, unless manually overridden.

Happy new year! Our resolution at Microsoft Teams is to keep delivering a delightful experience to our customers. We started the year at National Retail Federation (NRF), where Teams continued to shine as a platform with tailored capabilities to connect everyone in your company, from the C-suite to the firstline. This post includes all the SharePoint and related tech updates that rolled out in January 2020. This is the all-inclusive roadmap release recap for all things SharePoint and related technology. Highlighted features include SharePoint page version history, custom search results pages for SharePoint sites, image resizing in the Image web part, and SharePoint team sites ‘Next steps’ panel. For every project there are some tasks that are more critical than others which is why last year, we released the priority field. Knowing which tasks are urgent is helpful but not always enough. As a manager, I need to see an overview of how my team is tracking across all prioritized tasks. Introducing the priority chart! Quickly see how many Urgent, Important, Medium, and Low tasks your team has and the status of those work items. Note: This is currently available in the Planner web UI. Priority charts are coming soon to Planner mobile and Teams!

Early last year, we launched the Microsoft 365 compliance center for Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 customers. Since then we’ve been hard at work making it a unified and comprehensive compliance administration console for all our customers. We are excited to announce that we’ve shipped several new enhancements to the portal, and are making it available to all customers with Microsoft 365, Office 365, Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS), and Windows 10 Enterprise plans. In this release we’ve focused on three areas: integrated management, easier on-boarding, and improved controls.

Format: Video (11 mins) | The controls in Microsoft 365 to help drive security and compliance as your users work in Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams benefits from the security and compliance foundation of SharePoint, OneDrive and Exchange, so if you are used to the controls for these workloads, for the most part, you’ll just need to extend these to your Teams environment. You’ll get details on enabling: (1) Multi-Factor Authentication, (2) Data Loss Protection, (3) Information Classifications, (4) eDiscovery, and (5) Information Barriers.

This post summarizes the recent updates for Microsoft Forms in December 2019 – January 2020. These updates include: (1) Historical Forms so you can easily re-use your previous forms or select commonly used questions, and (2) New Forms mobile experience that provides the simple and intuitive design from desktop, on any mobile device. Designed to be light, smooth, and effortless no matter where you are, or what device you use.

One of the more common causes of HCW failures is the Federation Trust step for the Exchange on-premises organizations in Full hybrid configurations (Classic or Modern topologies). Federation trust is a mandatory step in the on-premises Exchange organizations when configuring Full hybrid deployments, as this allows us to create organization relationships (for features like hybrid free/busy or OWA/EAS redirection) and sharing policies (1:1 hybrid calendar sharing). In Exchange Online multi-tenant organizations, federation trust is already in place. This post details the more common errors and provides the recommended resolutions.

How do you enable a line of business with  4000+ employees, across multiple geographic locations, to attend a mandatory in-person training event closest to their location, with a limit of 150 attendees per session and a target completion of 12 weeks?  Microsoft BAG (Business Applications Group) Operations team used Power Apps Portals from the Microsoft Power Platform to quickly and painlessly enable employees to register, manage, and complete the mandatory training. The format and conversational nature of this training meant it could only be effectively delivered to subsets of employees at a time. The short timeline between kickoff and target completion (12 weeks) led to an immediate requirement to offer a way for users to see the list of session offerings and be able to register for a session that fit their schedule as well as their location. The end-to-end solution took 4-5 days to implement, test and deploy. We initially launched the portal solution with 25 sessions opening registration to 3000+ employees based in Redmond/Bellevue Washington locations. Within a week, after resounding interest from other teams to use the training registration portal solution, we were able to expand the solution to onboard 8 additional teams, and have managed registrations for 450+ events, including virtual sessions reaching out to an audience of approximately 20,000+ users across various geographic locations.
